Best Practices for Selling on Amazon with Sellbrite

Sellbrite makes it easy to manage your Amazon listings, sync inventory, and fulfill orders across multiple sales channels. However, Amazon’s marketplace has unique requirements and restrictions that sellers need to keep in mind. This guide covers best practices for listing, importing, and managing your Amazon inventory in Sellbrite.

Listing Products on Amazon

Sellbrite offers powerful listing tools that make expanding to new marketplaces simple. Whether you’re selling on multiple platforms or adding Amazon to your sales channels, Sellbrite helps you create and manage listings with ease. However, Amazon has specific requirements for listing products that are different from other marketplaces, and it’s important to understand these before getting started.

Amazon operates on a shared catalog system, meaning each product must have an Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN). Unlike other marketplaces where you can create entirely new product listings, Amazon requires sellers to match their products to existing ASINs whenever possible. If your product is already in Amazon’s catalog, Sellbrite can create a listing under that ASIN, allowing you to sell alongside other merchants offering the same item.

If a product doesn’t have an ASIN, it must be added directly in Amazon first before it can be listed through Sellbrite. This is because Sellbrite does not support ASIN creation. Creating a new ASIN requires submitting detailed product information to Amazon, including images, descriptions, and specifications, which must be done through Amazon Seller Central.

If you’re migrating to Amazon for the first time, this is a crucial step to be aware of. Ensuring your products already exist in Amazon’s catalog before listing them through Sellbrite will help you avoid delays and ensure a smooth transition.

Importing Product Data from Amazon

When importing products from Amazon into Sellbrite, it’s helpful to know what data Amazon makes available. While Amazon provides key details like SKUs, ASINs, pricing, and inventory levels, some product information is limited due to API restrictions.

Data Amazon Provides:

  • SKU, ASIN, price, quantity, condition, and condition note
  • Main product image
  • When available: brand, manufacturer, model number, dimensions, weight, and UPC/EAN/ISBN

Data Amazon Does Not Provide:

  • Product descriptions (unless you wrote them as the ASIN creator)
  • Product features (bullet points)
  • Additional or high-resolution images
  • Restock date, handling time, sale price, and search terms

If you’re looking to build a complete product catalog in Sellbrite, we recommend importing products from your shopping cart platform, such as Shopify or BigCommerce. These platforms provide more comprehensive data for your product catalog.

Fulfill Multi-Channel Orders with Your FBA Inventory

Sellbrite’s integration with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) lets you use your FBA inventory to fulfill orders from other sales channels, such as Etsy, eBay, and Google. This means you can take advantage of Amazon’s fulfillment network while selling on multiple platforms.

You can send orders to Amazon for fulfillment manually or set up Sellbrite to do it automatically, saving time and ensuring accurate inventory updates. If an order contains multiple items, you can choose to send specific items to FBA while fulfilling the rest yourself. This flexibility helps you manage inventory efficiently across all your sales channels.

Ghost Listings

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a powerful tool, but it’s important to manage it correctly to avoid potential issues—one of the most common being ghost listings.

A ghost listing is a duplicate listing that appears on Amazon’s marketplace but isn’t visible in your Seller Central account. Because you can’t see the listing in your account, it can cause serious confusion and make the issue hard to detect.

Ghost listings occur when a listing was initially imported into Sellbrite as an FBM (merchant-fulfilled) listing, but was later changed to FBA directly on Amazon. Since the change occurred outside of Sellbrite, our system isn’t aware of the update. As a result, Sellbrite continues to push merchant-fulfilled quantities to a non-existent listing, causing Amazon to generate a ghost listing.

How to Prevent Ghost Listings

Always change the fulfillment type in Sellbrite when sending inventory to your FBA warehouse. Making this change directly in Amazon can lead to ghost listings and inventory discrepancies.

If you suspect ghost listings are affecting your account or you’ve oversold items, contact Sellbrite Support for assistance. Our team can help diagnose the issue and guide you through resolving it. Reach out at support@sellbrite.com.

Amazon Handmade and International Accounts

Sellbrite supports Amazon Handmade, but with some limitations. Amazon’s API does not currently allow third-party platforms to create Handmade listings, so you cannot publish new Handmade listings from Sellbrite. However, you can still import your existing Handmade listings and orders from Amazon and keep your inventory quantities in sync.

Sellbrite also integrates with international Amazon accounts, including:

  • United Kingdom
  • Spain
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Mexico

While Sellbrite offers limited functionality for international Amazon channels, you can:

  • Import listings from Amazon to Sellbrite
  • Sync inventory for both warehouse stock and FBA
  • Import orders from international Amazon accounts
  • Ship orders using FBA

Sales from international Amazon channels will appear in your reports in USD. While Sellbrite does not currently support publishing listings to international Amazon marketplaces, you can still manage inventory, sync orders, and fulfill sales from these channels. If you’re selling on Amazon US, you can use Sellbrite to create and publish new listings directly.

Optimizing Your Amazon Workflow with Sellbrite

Using Sellbrite to manage your Amazon listings, inventory, and fulfillment can simplify your multi-channel selling strategy. By following best practices—such as properly setting up listings, keeping fulfillment types updated, and understanding data limitations—you can avoid common pitfalls and keep your operations running smoothly. Whether you’re using FBA, selling on international Amazon marketplaces, or managing Handmade listings, Sellbrite provides the tools to help you stay organized and efficient.
